KM3NeT - opens a new window on our universe
KM3NeT is a research infrastructure housing the next generation neutrino telescopes. Once completed, the telescopes will have detector volumes between megaton and several cubic kilometres of clear sea water.
KM3NeT - Wikipedia
It hosts water Cherenkov neutrino telescopes designed to detect and study neutrinos from distant astrophysical sources as well as from our own atmosphere, contributing significantly to both astrophysics and particle physics knowledge. [1]
KM3NeT detects the highest energy neutrino ever observed
Feb 12, 2025 · The KM3NeT/ARCA (Astroparticle Research with Cosmics in the Abyss) detector is mainly dedicated to the study of the highest energy neutrinos and their sources in the Universe. It is located at 3450 m depth, about 80 km from the coast of Portopalo di Capo Passero, Sicily.
Observation of an ultra-high-energy cosmic neutrino with KM3NeT
Feb 8, 2025 · Here we report an exceptionally high-energy event observed by KM3NeT, the deep-sea neutrino telescope in the Mediterranean Sea 4, which we associate with a cosmic neutrino detection. We detect...
Record-breaking neutrino is most energetic ever detected - Nature
Feb 12, 2025 · Astrophysicists have observed the most energetic neutrino ever. The particle — which probably came from a distant galaxy — was spotted by the Cubic Kilometre Neutrino Telescope (KM3NeT),...
KM3NET Detects the Highest Energy Neutrino Ever Observed
The KM3NeT neutrino telescope, currently under construction, is a giant deep-sea infrastructure distributed across two detectors, ARCA and ORCA. In its final configuration, KM3NeT will occupy a volume of more than one cubic kilometer. KM3NeT uses sea water as the interaction medium for neutrinos. Its high-tech optical modules detect the ...
