Michigan senators split on bill to avoid federal government shutdown
Some Senate Democrats, including Sen. Patty Murray of Washington state, have alternatively pushed for a four-week stopgap spending bill that would prevent a shutdown and keep the government funded while giving lawmakers time to negotiate a bipartisan agreement. Schumer said Republicans rejected the offer.
