At least two people died Sunday afternoon after being pulled from the water near Staten Island, police say. According to officials, the Coast Guard, along with FDNY and NYPD units, responded around noon to a report of an overturned boat in the Ambrose Channel.

One person was dead and another four people were in critical condition after a boat capsized off Staten Island on Sunday afternoon, city officials confirmed. The U.S. Coast Guard, the FDNY and the NYPD dispatched teams to the Ambrose Channel on the north side of the island after a distress call around 12 p.

Three people have died after a boat overturned in the waters off of Staten Island on Sunday, according to police.

Authorities responded to reports of a "vessel in distress" and an "overturned boat" with six individuals in the water around 12 p.m. Of the six recovered, one was pronounced dead, while the remaining five were taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition, officials said.
