An EF-1 tornado with 110 mph winds touched down in Jackson County, Tennessee Thursday afternoon, the National Weather Service confirms.

An EF-1 tornado hit Jackson County as a severe storm moved across the region Thursday night, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

The tornado touched down at about 6:10 p.m. and snapped or uprooted hundreds of trees in the county, damaging several structures.

GAINESBORO, Tenn. (WTVF) — The National Weather Service confirmed an EF1 tornado touched down in Jackson County on Thursday night. Surveyors from the Nashville office gained preliminary information that the tornado had wind speeds up to 100 mph and was 500 yards wide. The tornado was on the ground for eight minutes for roughly four miles.
